Red Rooibos (Aspalathus Linearis)

Redroobios

Also Known as: African Red Bush

Uses: Tea

Parts Used: Leaves

Rooibos, pronounced roy-boss, is often called African Red Bush Tea. This herb is known for its numerous health benefits, antioxidants and minerals. It can improve circulation by preventing the activity of the enzyme that triggers cardiovascular disease, lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

With its high levels of flavonoids, especially quercetin, rooibos tea can relieve indigestion, cramps and diahorrea along with reducing inflammation and allergies.

Rooibos is unique in that it can be consumed as often as you like and at any time of the day. Drinking it before bedtime can help with insomnia. Due to its high mineral content and lack of caffeine, it is known to help people feel calm and relaxed.

Garden Tips:

Rooibos tea can be mixed into the soil; improving drainage and helping plants to grow. Snails don’t like Rooibos (they must be the only ones) so sprinkle some rooibos ‘dust’ on the surface of the garden and you’ll see them run.
